Tour Description

Discover the portion of five roads (580 km) through inland Dalmatia, which was built in less than seven years (14-20 AD) under the agile governor of Roman Dalmatia – Publius Cornelius Dolabella. The road links Dalmatian coastline with its hinterland, opening a completely new perspective of Dalmatia – from seaside, islands to the mountains with hiking trails, lakes, rivers, canyons and plains.

 

Day 1 : Split

Sightseeing of the old town of Split (Spalatum) with the substructures of Diocletian's Palace, Peristyle, Vestibule, St. Domnius Cathedral (the patron saint of Split) and its Bell tower, Jupiter's Temple, the four main gates, Saint Philip Neri Church. Lunch in the old town restaurant followed by a visit to the Museum of Archaeological Monuments of Split and the Mestrović Gallery. Overnight stay in Split 1#.

Day 2 : Salona - Trogir - Split

Bus drive from Split to Salona, and visit of the archaeological site (ancient Salonae amphitheatre). Lunch in Etho village Škopljanci. Trogir (Tragurium) city tour including Kamerlengo tower, Ćipiko palace, the city gate, rector’s palace, Saint Lawrence cathedral and Radovan's portal, St. Nicholas benedictine monastery, city museum, sacred art museum is scheduled in the afternoon. Overnight stay in Split 2#.

Day 3 : Split - Danilo - Šibenik - Burnum - Skradin N.P. Krka - Bobodol - Sinj

Bus drive from Split via Trogir to Danilo site, the ancient roman town of Rider- the archaeological treasure under the under the ground. Continue towards Šibenik with sightseeing of Šibenik’ s historic old town, followed by the visit of Skradin and the Krka National Park. The visit to National Park Krka combines walking and boat ride from Skradin to Skradinski buk. Lunch and hiking in NP Krka followed by the visit to Burnum roman military camp, the only military amphitheatre in Croatia. Driving to Bobodol to visit the remains of the actual Roman road. Overnight stay in Sinj 3#.

Day 4 : Sinj - Tilurium (Gardun near Trilj) - Samoleć - Kurtovći - Klis - Split

Tour of Cetina region museum and Alka (quoit) museum in Sinj, with the pass by the house of Perković family in Sinj. From Sinj, the tour proceeds to Tilurium to visit Roman Legion Campus, camp of the VII. Roman Legion and the cradle of football (soccer). Lunch in town of Trilj. Continuation to Samoleć to sightsee the ancient roadway linking the town of Salona with the hinterland. Visit the fortress Klis and the Ethno-agro park 'Stella Croatica' in Klis. Return to Split and overnight 4#.

Day 5 : Split - Omiš – Cetina River - Split

Bus drive from Split to Omiš via Tugare with the photo stop over Omiš. Walk to the old town of Omiš and the visit of the fort of Mirabel. Return to Omiš seaside and boarding the boats for a 45 min motorised trip upstream Cetina River to Radmanove Mlinice restaurant. A typical lunch in Radmanove Mlinice and return to Split via the coastal way. Overnight stay in Split 5#.

Day 6 : Split

End of program.
